RESEARCHER / CONSULTANT / TRAINER JoAn A. Mann, MBA, GPHR

JoAn Mann, an organizational consultant, speaker, researcher and trainer, has worked with small business owners, national associations, Fortune 500 executive teams, universities and numerous businesses in a wide variety of industries and governmental agencies since 1980.  Her scope of work covers assessments, inter-cultural behavior, global leadership, team development, cross-cultural teamwork, strategic human resource management, stress management, creative decision-making, management skills and effective communications. 

She is the primary Researcher, Developer and Publisher of the PREP Personal Strengths Profile in 1984 in cooperation with Statistician Dr. Robert Houston.  She has partnered with numerous programmers since 1987 as the architect and content producer.  JoAn is an adjunct professor at the University of Applied Sciences, Deggendorf, Germany.  She has been a regular instructor since 2004 in the International Management Bachelors and Masters programs, teaching numerous cross cultural behavior and leadership, team-development, coaching, communication and presentation skills as well as strategic international human resource management.

JoAn has her Masters in Business Administration from Denver University emphasizing statistics, human resource management and marketing.   Her Bachelor’s Degree is from Colorado College in Fine Arts and German with teaching certification.  Additionally, JoAn has been certified as a Master NLP Trainer and Health Practitioner.  She trains other trainers in communication techniques, personality, coaching, leadership skills, team and organizational development practices, resiliency & stress management

JoAn has authored articles on career development, decision-making and job success research; contributed research and chapters to various books, published personality and stress inventories, workshop manuals for students and leaders on leadership, personal resiliency, decision-making, management skills, communication and career development skills.  She has conducted job success and stress research in over fifty industries.  She has been involved in personality-medical research projects, including comprehensive wellness programs.

She has done extensive work in Job Success Probability Studies, customizing Leadership and Employee Development curricula and workshops, conducting executive coaching and facilitating management team programs. A partial listing of past and current clients:

Prior to her OD work, JoAn headed Career Development and Placement for The Colorado College and Iowa State University’s Business, Sciences & Humanities; set up and headed the Business Cooperative Education and Internship program at Denver University.  JoAn is an outdoor recreation enthusiast, enjoys ballet, swimming, hiking, Nordic skiing, her family times  with her two adult children, their partners… and especially her two grandchildren, ages 2 and 5.

IMPACT! Leadership Development™ – training for supervisors and managers in various aspects of supervision and leadership, such as goal setting, managing, motivating, creative problem-solving, performance reviews that are aligned with organizational mission and values, conflict resolution, thriving with change, managing different personalities for optimal teamwork.  This extensive leadership program has been part of cultural shifts in organizations such as Bayer Pharmaceutical, Bank of the Cascades, Beko, Cognis,  and curriculum for University of Applied Sciences (Germany).

Change/Stress Management Resiliency – an informative and hands-on session for participants to evaluate their change and stress coping skills, resiliency, energy reserves and attitudes. The focus is on developing healthy perspectives in looking at change and thriving more fully in today’s fast-paced information age.  JoAn has presented these sessions to medical groups, associations, corporations, non-profits since 1981.

Understanding People – a workshop for understanding our differences and communicating for understanding based on different personality and values that we each have.  Practical and fun session for a wide appeal and large audiences. 

Working Together – customized team building workshop for developing better group work and interactions; a combination of experiential, low-ropes course, small group, personality assessment, team agreements, communication exercises, identifying action plan areas for organizational success and mission/values alignment.  There are usually follow-up sessions that help implement agreements made during initial team sessions.  JoAn has been conducting these sessions since 1983.

Hiring for Excellence™ –  a workshop for understanding the keys to successful recruitment, interviewing and hiring.  Much of this workshop helps to better detail the expectations and requirements of the position and how to discover which applicants would best overall match the long-term outlook for the position and organization.  This program has been a cornerstone for JoAn since 1986.

Keeping the Right Employees™ trainings to help retain top employees keying in on motivation, managerial communications, goal setting, motivating performance reviews, career pathing to match top employee needs.  This is a program JoAn developed for public workshops in 1986 and has been used by COCC as part of their regular business/supervisory series.

Customer Service – a special workshop to offer insight to participants on their special talents in delivering outstanding customer service– whether routine front line customer contacts, or intense trouble-shooting situations.  Skills in listening are emphasized and responding to customer needs in a manner and timing that will be heard and appreciated by the customer.  JoAn has been presenting this program since 1987 to organizations that have high foot-traffic as well as tele-customer service centers.

Dealing with Challenging people­ – How do you talk to someone who challenges you continually and even disrespectfully?  This program addresses key and critical communication techniques to build understanding and getting “on the same page”, regardless of how different the person is, and even how on the surface it appears they are testing you!  This program is often  customized as part of customer service programs,   leadership and supervisory trainings.  JoAn has been presenting this program since 1985.

Staying Resourceful in Difficult times Juggling with the unforeseen crises, whether Pandemic health needs, staying afloat financially– How do you talk maintain your personal resiliency by tapping into your innate strengths and experiences.  The focus is building resourcefulness, thriving  and understanding how to maintain a healthy, positive approach to interacting with others.
